The opening of the traveling exhibition "Carpets of the Amur region" at the Museum of Fine Arts of Komsomolsk-on-Amur took place on February 18, 2022.
This project is aimed at preserving and popularizing the achievements of the ethnic culture of the peoples of the North, at the development of national crafts.
Representatives of the scientific and educational center for the Development of the Nanai language and culture of the Amur State University got acquainted at the exhibition with the unique culture of the indigenous peoples of the Khabarovsk Territory - Nanais, Ulchi, Nivkhs, Udege, Negidals, Orochi, Evens and Evenks, using the example of one of its most striking and diverse artistic forms – carpets.
Various materials were used for their manufacture: textiles, fur, bird skins, fish skin, rovduga (homemade suede), reed rods. In the past, the Udege people made carpets even from birch bark. Nanais and Ulchi preferred reed mats and textile carpets, residents of the northern regions, Evenks and Evens, preferred fur. Products made of bird skins and rovdugs are more typical for non-Hidalese.
The exhibition is complemented by household items (birch bark tueses, plates woven from willow and talnik vines, tools for making fur and leather, etc.), as well as photographs of Amur craftsmen whose products are presented at the exhibition.
